From Feb. 7 to 23, the Games unfolded across Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, drawing 3,500 athletes from 93 countries to compete in 116 events across 16 sports—a celebration that once again captivated the world with the spirit and passion of athletic competition. Korea sent a delegation of 71 athletes competing in six sports, proudly representing the nation on the global stage.
Korea finished the Games with three golds, four silvers, three bronzes and 13th place in the overall standings. In short track speed skating, Korea earned medals in both the men’s and women’s 1000 meters and 1500 meters, as well as in the relay events, reaffirming its strength in these events. In snowboarding, Korea claimed a historic gold medal in the women’s halfpipe. Additional medals followed in the men’s parallel giant slalom and the women’s big air, further highlighting the country’s growing competitiveness in snowboarding. All athletes representing Korea demonstrated unwavering determination and sportsmanship throughout the Games.
Throughout the Games, the Korea House in central Milan drew steady crowds. The venue provided meals to enhance the performance of the Korean delegation, engaged in sports diplomacy efforts and promoted Korean culture. As part of its cultural outreach, visitors experienced various aspects of Korea, including traditional games, K-food tastings, K-beauty and K-pop programs, tourism exhibitions and a Hanbok fashion show.
The determination and passion Korean athletes brought to these Games have left everyone looking ahead with confidence. The excitement of this Olympic season will continue with the Paralympic Games, set to take place at the same venues from Mar. 6 to 15.
